DescriptionClaude Monet Autograph Letter Signed. One page on mourning stationery imprinted, "Giverny par Vernon. Eure", 4.75" x 6.5". February 18, 1914. To an unknown recipient, Monet writes: "Thank you my dear friend for your affectionate sympathy... I must summon the courage to withstand these successive deaths. Claude Monet."
Monet's son, Jean Monet, had died eight days earlier on February 10; and he was still mourning the death of his second wife, Alice Hoschedé three years earlier. Writing from Giverny, where his famous "Water Lilies" series was painted.
Condition: Usual mail folds, and light toning and wear. Some ink ghosting occurring at the time the letter was written.
