    Description

    Charles Dana Gibson Typed Letter Signed, with Additional Suggestive Inscription. Dated April 3, 1918. Addressed to "My Dear Mrs. Tilton" on "Division of Pictorial Publicity" letterhead. One page, measuring approximately 8 x 10.5 inches, matted and mounted to foam core backing. An otherwise formal letter, signed in ink by Gibson with the inscription: "This letter doesn't look at / all the way I feel about / you." Light toning and thumbsoiling, with three horizontal folding creases. Very good. From the collection of Judith Adelman.

    Charles Dana Gibson (September 14, 1867 - December 23, 1944) - American graphic artist, best known for his creation of the Gibson Girl, an iconic representation of the beautiful and independent American woman at the turn of the twentieth-century. At the time of this letter, Gibson was involved in the creation of World War I recruitment posters, serving as Chairman for the Committee on Public Information: Division of Pictorial Publicity.
