    Anton Rubinstein Autograph Musical Quotation Signed "Ant. Rubinstein." A small sheet, 8.25" x 5.25", London; May 2, 1881. Eight bars of unidentified music, marked to be played "Molto lento", or very slowly. Signed and dated by Rubinstein below. The sheet is mounted at the corners to a thicker sheet of supportive paper.

    Anton Rubinstein (1829-1894) was a prolific Russian composer, conductor, and pianist who founded the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. With his brother Nikolai, also a talented pianist, he founded the Moscow Conservatory. Over the course of his life he wrote twenty operas, the most famous being The Demon.

    Condition: Flattened vertical folds. Moderate toning with mat burn at the edges. There is a small pencil notation at the upper left corner.
