Signatures obtained August 13, 1969, their first day out of quarantine

Apollo 11 Crew-Signed Large Color LIFE Magazine Page, with Provenance. A fine copy of the 1969 LIFE Magazine special edition "To the Moon and Back" signed on an inside page titled "The Men of Apollo 11" underneath a color photo, as follows: "Neil Armstrong", "Buzz Aldrin" and "Michael Collins". There is great provenance that goes with this item. On August 13, 1969, Marine pilot Major Arthur "Bud" Jones III of Northbrook, Illinois, was chosen (from fifty or more pilots available that day) to ferry these national heroes by helicopter from the military section of O'Hare Field to Meigs Field and back. The Apollo 11 crew's signatures were obtained during one of those flights. Major Jones was honored to play a vital role on that historic day. Included with the lot is a copy of a local newspaper article about his memorable piloting mission as well as a group of snapshots taken that day. Rare and very desirable as such. Signature page is very fine.

This was the day that America had been waiting for- our astronaut heroes were finally released from the required quarantine on August 13th (after nearly three weeks). An unprecedented day of celebration was planned- first a ticker tape parade in New York City, then one in Chicago, and then on to Los Angeles for a third. That evening, they attended a State Dinner with President Nixon and numerous congressmen, governors, and ambassadors from around the world where they were presented Presidential Medals of Freedom.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
