Anthony Wayne Autograph Letter Signed. Two and one-half pages, 4.5" x 7.5", "Head Quarters," February 14, 1782, to "Col. [James] Jackson." In this letter, General Wayne writes Colonel Jackson, who is in Georgia near the Ogeechee River, regarding two Indians. He then goes into detail about a suggested strike against the British. In part:

"I herewith send you two Indians who I wish to be ferried over the Ogechee tomorrow with their horses & packs-treat them with kindness, which with the talk they carry with them I hope will be productive of happy consequences. The detachment of Infantry marched last Evening-I would beg leave to suggest a manoeuver that possibly may take a party of the Enemy in-. . . [loss of some text] a few of the Dragoons in . . . I only suggest this by way of hint-not as a command." This letter exhibits very minor dampstaining, with a loss of paper at the two lower corners, resulting in the loss of a few words of text.
