    Description

Andrew Jackson: Rare Check, Signed as President, to His Nephew and Namesake Andrew Jackson Donelson. Among collectable autograph categories, personal checks constitute a popular area of specialization. Checks signed by famous people are understandably more desirable when made out to important or interesting payees and, of course, checks from U.S. presidents the most prized when dated during their term of office. In this July 7, 1835 example we have hit the "daily double." Made out for the then-substantial sum of $150 and drawn on the Bank of the Metropolis, City of Washington, the check is entirely made out in Jackson's hand. Beautiful condition with a clean, bold signature. It has been elegantly custom framed with a hand-colored period portrait of Jackson. 13" x 19.5" as framed.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
