Andrew Jackson Letters Patent Signed "Andrew Jackson'. One partially printed vellum page, 11.75" x 15", Washington, D.C.; March 31, 1835. Acknowledging that "John Moffat and Morton Taintor...have alleged that they have invented a new and useful improvement in cooking stoves called the self heat retaining stove..." and that the U. S. government grants "according to Law...for the term of fourteen years...the full and exclusive right and liberty of making, constructing, using and vending to others to be used, the said improvement." Countersigned by John Forsyth as Secretary of State and Benjamin F. Butler as U. S. Attorney General. Paper seal of the United States affixed at lower left. With a pink ribbon attached at the left vertical side. Accompanied by a two-page explanation of the technical workings of the stove, measuring 11.25" x 13.75", dated March 31, 1835.

This patent is found in the U. S. patent records and is assigned the number 8,970X. According to the Directory of American Tool and Machinery Patents: "Most of the patents prior to 1836 were lost in the Dec. 1836 fire. Only about 2,000 of the almost 10,000 documents were recovered. Little is known about this patent. Only the patent drawing is available. This patent is in the database for reference only."

Condition: Flattened folds, with varying degrees of toning to both pages. Ink is fading slightly, but Jackson's bold signature is mostly unaffected. The explanation page has small holes at the left vertical edge where page was removed from a larger volume.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
