Andrew Jackson Free Frank Cover and Autograph Letter Signed. Measuring 5" x 3" (sight) and postmarked December 3, n. y., Jackson has addressed this cover in his own hand: "Free Andrew Jackson/Mrs. Mary Polk/care of Mr. Lucius Polk/near Columbia/Maury County/Tennessee." Light soiling near the right edge. Jackson's signature is bold and bright.

The accompanying Jackson ALS, two pages, 5" x 7.75" (width varies), n. p. [The Hermitage], March 12, n. y. [circa early 1840s], has sustained some damage to the left edge resulting in loss of text. He is writing to decline an invitation due to his ill health. The letter reads, in part: "[General] A. Jackson returns [his kind] regards to Mr. & Mrs. [Polk], and with sincere re[g]ret informs them that the state of his health will deprive him of the pleasure of being with them on the 15th instant. I am desired by Andrew [Jackson, Jr.] & Sarah to present their kind regards, and to say to you also, that it will be out of their power to be present on this joyous occasion, they cannot well leave me. It will afford us pleasure to see you & Mrs. Polk at the Hermitage with the Groom & Bride..." The letter is toned with weakened folds separating in places, with paper loss affecting text.

The letter and cover are matted and framed with an engraved portrait of an aging Jackson to an overall size of 10.25" x 17.75".

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
