Andrew Jackson Autograph Letter Twice Signed. One page with integral blank, 8" x 10", Washington, November 21, 1833. Addressed to William J. Leiper of Philadelphia, the president discusses the matter of a medal and the care of a young horse, in part: "I have to thank you for your prompt attention about the Medal for Master Dengel. I do not recollect his Christian name - on the Medal, the word Ingenuity, may be added 'Master Dengel' 'New York,' if room." With regard to the horse, he writes, "The food (oats & hay) . . . ought to be regulated to keep the colt in good . . . growing condition at its age. It ought not to be fed too high with grain . . . it might injure its legs. . . . I have only to request the presentation of my kind respects to the Genl & say to him I fully approve of his management of the colt."

Jackson's second signature appears on the address panel, which is accomplished entirely in his hand and contains a franking signature reading, "Free Andrew Jackson."

Condition: The entire document has been silked on both sides, repairing separation along the folds. Large spots of staining do not obscure the text of the letter nor the text on the address panel, both of which remain bold and bright.
