    Andrew Jackson Autograph Letter Signed. One page with cover, 7.75" x 9.75". Hermitage, May 16, 1827. A letter of introduction to Major Davezar of New Orleans: "This will be handed to you by Mr. Delacy from Raleigh No Carolina, a lawyer of that place, and a friend of mine of long standing, now on his way to Louisiana on business. I give him this introductory letter to you as you will find him an intelligent and interesting companion... Providence not interfering to prevent it I shall do myself the pleasure of spending with you, my old friends & companions in arms the 8th of January next agreeable to invitation of your Legislative presented thro you Governor, which has been rec'd."

    Beginning in 1828, "The Eighth" was celebrated on January 8 to honor Jackson's victory at the Battle of New Orleans. The day was widely honored across the South, most notably in New Orleans; a tradition that continued until the start of the Civil War. An important association letter referencing the Battle as well as Jackson's growing stature as a national figure. He would be elected President in 1828.

    Condition: Bold ink, which has blossomed a bit. Letter appears to be reinforce on verso, with ink burns and bits of paper loss at folds. A few areas of ink smears. The original cover has been detached and is displayed on verso of frame.
