    Description

Andrew Carnegie Book Signed, with Two Louise Carnegie Books Signed. The business magnate and philanthropist has signed A Carnegie Anthology (arranged by Margaret Barclay Wilson [New York: privately printed, 1915], 8vo, 260 pages) on the front free endpaper, "To Alexander Morrison with Kindest regards from Andrew Carnegie. January 5th 1916." Some wear to the original green cloth. Some weakness started along the hinges.

Carnegie's wife, Louise, has signed two books. (1) The Life of Andrew Carnegie by Burton J. Hendrick, volume 1 (New York: Doubleday, Doran & Company, 1932), 8vo, 434 pages. Mrs. Carnegie has actually signed a calling card printed "Mrs. Carnegie." On the card, the wife of philanthropist Andrew Carnegie has written, "To Alexander K. Morrison our faithful friend with warm regard from Louise W. Carnegie. October 19, 1932." The calling card is housed in its original envelope which has been affixed to the front pastedown. The spine of this book has begun separating. The original blue cloth has faded and contains some discoloration; gilt-stamped title. Some foxing. (2) Autobiography of Andrew Carnegie (Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1920), 8vo, 385 pages. On the front free endpaper, Mrs. Carnegie has written, "Alexander Morrison In grateful remembrance from Louise W. Carnegie. Christmas 1920." The original navy blue cloth is only lightly worn, though the back cover contains spots of discoloration. The spine exhibits some weakness along the hinge.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
