Alexander Hamilton Autograph Letter Signed "Alexander Hamilton." One page, 7.5" x 9.75" (sight), "Treasury Department"; September 13, 1790. Addressed to Benjamin Walker Esquire, a Naval officer of the Port of New York. Written while Hamilton was serving as Secretary of the Treasury, the letter reads in full:

"Since mine to you of the [blank] instant, it has occurred to me, that the President, in his direction to me, has limited your absence to six months, which I did not recollect when I extended it to twelve. I am therefore under the necessity of retracting six, and of requesting you to consider your leave of absence as for six months from the time of your departure." Matted and framed with the letter's original transmittal cover and an engraving of Hamilton to the overall size of 19.75" x 15.75".

Benjamin Walker (1753-1818) was born in London but immigrated to the United States. He served in the Revolutionary War as an aide-de-camp to General Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben. Walker later served as a custom agent at New York's port from 1791-1798.
