"They will then explore the lunar surface..."

Al Worden Autograph Letter Signed Regarding the Apollo 15 Mission. A fabulous and informative handwritten letter on two 8" x 10.5" lined pages, no date [likely late 1970], no place [likely Houston]. He answers a correspondent named David who had asked questions about his upcoming mission. It reads, in part: "... We should launch sometime next summer... After launch into earth orbit we will check all the systems and prepare for the TLI (trans-lunar injections) burn, after which I will fly the command module and pull the combined CM and LM (lunar module) free of the booster... Once at the moon I will complete the maneuver placing us into lunar orbit. Again, after checking all systems, David Scott and Jim Irwin will detach the LM and make their landing. They will then explore the lunar surface for some time not yet determined. The LM will then be flown into orbit, docked with the CM, and all rocks and necessary equipment transferred to the CM for the return trip. After this the LM will be jettisoned and the CM will perform the Trans-Earth Injection. Three days later the CM will re-enter the earth's atmosphere and parachute to a landing in the ocean..." It is signed at the close: "Al Worden". Uncommonly fine content. Very fine condition. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.
