Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson Autograph Letter Signed, " Nelson & Bronte". One page, 7.25" x 8.5", May 8, 1802, to one Reverend Este, Hyde Park. Nelson's seemingly odd signature here is typical of those he employed during the final years of his life. In 1799 Ferdinand, King of the Two Sicilies and Infante of Spain, granted Nelson a Sicilian duchy Bronte in return for services against the Neapolitans. Becoming a dual citizen of sorts, Nelson proudly advertised his new title along with his English name. The letter reads, "My Dear Sir, My Brother in law Mr. George Matcham is going to Paris and purposes to make some purchases. I have therefore to request that you will ask your son to give Mr. Matcham that advice and assistance which he may require, and be so good as send me a letter for Mr. M to take with him, he purposes going on Wednesday. Are we never to see you more at Weston where at all times you will find attached friends and none more so that your obliged." There is a 1" x 3" area of paper loss removing Nelson's location and touching upon the salutation. Folds, light stains, else Very Good condition. The letter is mounted open in a gilt wooden frame to reveal the address panel. Included are two brass nameplates, a later 19th c. engraved portrait of Nelson and a wood fragment from Nelson's Trafalger flagship, H.M.S. Victory. Overall framed size is 31.0" x 23.0". Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
