    Description

Abraham Lincoln. Unsigned Autograph Document. Vermilion Co. (Ill.), April 1858, one page, folio, on ruled paper. A plea prepared for and signed by Joseph Peters, defendant in a suit brought by Robbins and Pomeroy. Peters seeks judgment in his favor because a writ was "served upon him, within the county of Champaign…and because…the county of Vermilion is not the county of the plaintiffs; and because…the causes of action…did not…accrue in the county of Vermilion; and because…said causes of action were not…specifically made payable in said county of Vermilion… [W]herefore he prays judgment of said writ and declaration, and that the same may be quashed &c." Broken folds reinforced on verso, which is blank except for dockets. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.

Please note: An "Unsigned Autograph Document" means that this document is written in Abraham Lincoln's own handwriting, but does not include his signature.
