    Description

    Abraham Lincoln: Military Commission. 15 1/2" x 19 1/2" engraved vellum document signed by Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of War Simon Cameron on September 9, 1861. It appoints George S. Lauman as a "Second Lieutenant in the tenth Regiment of Infantry", such ranking effective April 26, 1861. Normal folds, intact sawtooth paper seal. Both signatures are clean. Lauman was a Pennsylvania native. He was promoted to Captain on October 10, 1863 and died of disease on October 3, 1864. His regiment was part of the Army of the Potomac, "RA" or Regular Army.
