    Abraham Lincoln Autograph Note Signed "A. Lincoln." One page, 3" x 3.5" (sight), n.p. [Washington], April 8, 1864. Given to an unknown recipient for the pardon of a Confederate soldier, the president writes, "Let this man take the oath of Dec. 8th and be discharged." The oath to which the president refers was his Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction, announced on December 8, 1863, during his annual message to Congress. The rebel soldier agrees to swear an oath of loyalty to the United States government and U.S. Constitution in exchange for a full pardon. Matted and framed to an overall size of 6" x 6.25".

    Condition: Lightly mat burned around the margins. Three very small tears (less than 1/10 of an inch) at the left edge.
