    Description

    Abraham Lincoln Autograph Note Signed with Initials. 7.75" x 6.25", September 11, 1861. A note begun in pencil and finished in ink. In full: "Captain Plummer, commanded the Regulars at the Battle of Wilson's Creek and was badly wounded in the hip - He still carries the ball in his hip as he / Mr. Attorney General Bates thinks Capt Plummer ought to be promotion. Sept. 11, 1861. AL."

    Together with an 1848 document, signed by Joseph B. Plummer, the soldier referenced in Lincoln's note. Plummer was wounded at the Battle of Wilson's Creek on August 10, 1861. He received a promotion for his gallantry, but died of disease the following year at Corinth.

    Condition: Lincoln note light creasing, with toning along flattened folds and at top margin. Ink has smudged slightly affecting the date, and the L in his signature. Pencil notations on Plummer signed document, with toning throughout.
