    Description

Abraham Lincoln Autograph Endorsement Signed. 3.5" x 1.75". Excised from a larger document, the president has written, in full: "Finding & Sentence void for informality / [signed] A. Lincoln / Feb. 10, 1864." Extra text runs perpendicular to Lincoln's, but does not affect the signature. Edges are uneven with minor damage to the upper right corner. Minor ink blooming in places.

In the last years of the war, Lincoln went through stacks of courts-martial, pardoning or commuting the sentences of the condemned as men were needed for the war. On the date of this document, Lincoln went through thirty-two cases. Later that same day, his private stable burned down, killing many of the horses.
