Abraham Lincoln. Autograph Document Signed "Brown, Baker & Lincoln p.d." No place or date (Vermilion Co., Ill.; docketed May 184[1]), one page, oblong octavo. In John M. Wilson vs Samuel Frazier, the defendant states he is "not [gu]ilty in manner and form as the…plaintiff…hat[h a]lleged…" This suit against Frazier, the county sheriff, was dismissed on Oct. 17, 1842 when Lincoln reported to the court that Wilson was dead; Lincoln was however mistaken, and the case was reinstated the next day because of his error. Trimming at left side and some marginal chips take a letter or two in each line (bracketed in quotation). Verso has reinforced folds and considerable marginal darkening. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
