    Description

    Abraham Lincoln Appointment Signed "Abraham Lincoln" with Related Signed Documents. A military appointment, one partially printed page, 15.75" x 19.5", Washington, D.C.; March 1, 1864. Appointing "E. Geisey...Assistant Quartermaster of Volunteers, with the rank of Captain in the service of the United States." Countersigned by Edwin Stanton as Secretary of War. With patriotic and military vignettes at the top and bottom margins. Green paper seal and docketing at the top left corner. Very bold signature by Lincoln.

    Accompanying the military appointment are four corresponding documents related to Geisey's military career, including two documents concerning Emanuel Geisey's appointment to first lieutenant of the 46th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Militia on September 24, 1861. There is a copy of a Special Order, dated July 10, 1865, accepting the resignations of soldiers under the provisions of General Order No. 79, "on condition that they receive no final payment until they shall have satisfied the Pay Department that they are not indebted to the U.S." Finally, there is a legal document, dated July 6, 1868 and signed by Geisey, appointing Lt. E.H. Parson his attorney, "to prosecute any claim against the Government of the United States, for service as Capt. A.L.M. V.U.S.A."

    Condition: The military appointment has flattened folds, with some small holds along the centerfold. Light toning at edges, else very good. The other documents have flattened folds, varying degrees of soiling, toning, and dampstaining. Some chipping is present at the edges of some of the related documents.
