    Description

Abner Doubleday Autograph Endorsement Signed "A. Doubleday." One page, 2.75" x 2", "Hd Qrs 3d Div 1st A.C.," March 30, 1863. Doubleday, recently promoted to major general of volunteers writes, in full: "Appd & Respectfully forwarded the explanation being satisfactory." Heavily toned.

Doubleday (1819-1893) was a career soldier who had served in the Mexican and Seminole Wars before the Civil War broke out. He was second in command at Fort Sumter at the beginning of the war and played an important role at Gettysburg. He is most famous, however, for erroneously being credited in 1907 with the invention of baseball, a claim he never made in life.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
