Aaron Burr Legal Document Signed "A Burr." One page of a bifolium, 7.75" x 12.75", [ New York]; June 31, 1831. Signed by Burr as legal counselor to Joseph Townsend. The document is an agreement between Townsend, James W. Robinson, and Burr, regarding a property purchased by Robinson from Townsend. The property had two mortgages taken out on it, and the agreement declared Townsend would pay off the mortgages in order to leave the property unencumbered for Robinson. Should the payment not be made before the allotted time, Burr would make the payment. With docketing on verso.

Aaron Burr is not remembered for his skill as a successful layer, his term as the third vice-president, or his service in the Revolutionary War, but instead for his famous duel with Alexander Hamilton. This act, combined with his later treason trial, dashed all hope for a return to politics. He returned to his law profession and ended his life as an attorney in rather humble surroundings.

Condition: Moderate toning and foxing throughout. Cancellation marks through all of the document's signatures, including Burr's. Chipping and small tears at the edges. The document has almost completely separated along the center horizontal fold. Small red wax seals at the bottom right, with some paper residue.
