Aaron Burr Autograph Letter Signed. Four pages of a bifolium, 7.25" x 9.5", New York; June 16, 1817. Burr writes to a Mr. Prevost, a lawyer from Greenville, delivering legal counsel. It reads in part:

"Your manufacturing concern is not free of difficulty. The Deed, I think not good by way of grant or release but may operate as a covenant to stand signed, a distinction which Mr. Barnes will explain to you. There can be no doubt however but that the articles of association are to be taken as explanatory of the uses for which the deed was given. It is in my opinion clear that the duration of the grant cannot exceed the duration or existence of the company under their articles...The Project appears to me to have been an imposition on you from its commencement with a view to get your Water Right without paying for it...If they demand further contribution from you, do not pay a Cent..." Signed, "A. Burr." Following his exile in Europe, Burr returned to New York where he continued his law practice, living quietly until his death in 1836.

The addressee in question could be Augustine Prevost (1765-1842), Burr's stepson, whom the statesman formally adopted following his marriage to Theodosia in 1782, or Augustine Prevost (1744-1821), Theodosia's nephew who served as a British major in the Revolutionary War before moving to Greenville.

Condition: Very light soiling. Smoothed folds.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
