Aaron Burr Autograph Letter Signed "A. Burr" as U.S. Senator from New York. Four pages, 8" x 10", New York, April 19, [17]93, to his friend "J[acob]. DeLamatre Esqr." concerning various issues, including New York newspapers. In part:

"The extreme illness of Mrs. Burr (which continues), business, politicks, and civilities, or more properly etiquette, have not only occupied, but almost distracted me for some weeks past; and I have little reason to hope for less interruption or anxiety for some weeks to come. . . .I received your letter covering the Ulster Gazette with Mr. [John] Tappen's publication . . . one bore some marks of having fallen into bad hands-It appeared to have been opened. . . . Your Letter of the 13 has been this Day recd-In my answer to your former one about Tappen's publication I gave you my opinion that the words exposed to him both to a civil Suit & criminal prosecution for a Libel." Three years after writing this letter, Senator Burr came in fourth place for the presidency. Eight years later, Burr, then vice president, killed Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton in a duel. This letter exhibits smoothed folds; minor foxing and some weakness at the folds. Burr's signature is written in bold strokes.
