DescriptionAaron Burr Autograph Letter Signed with Initials, "AB". One page, 7.75" x 12.75", August 14 [no year], addressed to a Mr. G.W. Lathross, concerning a number of legal cases. Though a prominent lawyer and later Vice President of the United States, Aaron Burr is best remembered for his duel with Alexander Hamilton, resulting in the death of the latter. After Hamilton's death in July 1804, Burr kept his distance from New York and New Jersey for fear of arrest (the duel occurred in New Jersey but Hamilton died in New York). He conspired with James Wilkinson to establish an independent country in the southwest and was tried for treason. Although acquitted, he fled to Europe for four years before returning to America.
