    19th Century Autograph Album, 5" x 7.75", containing more than 30 signatures, including military offices, writers, politicians, and other notables. The autographs are all affixed to the pages, and most are clip signatures. Includes: Ulysses S. Grant, signature clip adding his rank as Major General [beneath added in pencil in an unknown hand, "Vicksburg July 30/63"]; Henry Wilson, signature clip; William T. Sherman, signature clip with rank; Philip Sheridan, signature clip with rank; Louis Agassiz, signature on a card; William Cullen Bryant, signature on lined paper adding date "January 19, 1874"; John Greenleaf Whittier, signature adding date; Wendell Phillips Autograph Quote Signed on a card, "Peace if possible / Justice at any rate"; Charles Sumner, signature clip; Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, signature and sentiment; Alfred Bierstadt, signature; Daniel Webster, signature clip; Charlotte Cushman, brief ALS sending her autograph; David Wilmot, signature clip; Benjamin Butler, signature clip; Andrew Johnson, signature clip; Thomas Nast, signature on a card, and Kalakaua, signature on a card. With additional signatures throughout; as well as a Civil War pass dated February 8, 1864 issued to a Miss Mix, to travel "within the Defences South of the Potomac & Return"; and a South Carolina $1 Dollar currency note dating from December 1776. All items are affixed directly the album's pages.

    Condition: Leather bound boards have moderate wear, and the backstrip has come loose at the bottom of the spine; chipping to both top and bottom of spine. Front joint is cracked; and small spot of dampstaining occurring at back affecting the last 10 or so pages, which are all blank. Soiling to both front and back pastedowns.
