[Warren G. Harding]: Attorney General Harry Daugherty Signed Letters. Pair of 1-page letters from Harry Daugherty, controversial Attorney General under Harding, part of the "Ohio Gang", forced to resign from office in 1924 due to charges of corruption and malfeasance. The first is a TLS, December 18, 1919, written to Doctor C. E. Sawyer of Marion, Ohio, acknowledging the receipt of $5,000 (possibly a contribution to the Harding presidential campaign). "... Of course, there are many troublesome things that may turn a hair but never a trend, and I haven't time to consider them." The second is an ALS, Columbus, Ohio, July 24, 1924, written to Glen Blodgett of Chicago. He refers to the late President: "... President Harding gave his life to his country. He was a great President and when the people get back to honest and normal thinking he will be so considered." From the Estate of Malcolm S. Forbes.
