    An official copy of General Orders No. 239, signed by Horace G.H. Tarr, who was wounded at the Battle of Peachtree Creek

    [Ulysses S. Grant]. Official Copy of General Orders No. 239, Calling for a Grand Review at the Close of the War. Two pages, 7.75" x 9.75". "Head Quarters of the Army. Adjutant General's Office. Washington. May 18th 1865." Issued by command of Lt. General Ulysses S. Grant, in part: "A review, with marching salute of the Army of the Potomac, the Army of the Tennessee, the Army of Georgia, and General Sheridan's Cavalry, will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, the 23rd and 24th Instant." What follows are details as to order, and dress code for the review. An official clerical copy, signed by Horace G. H. Tarr on the verso.

    Horace G.H. Tarr enlisted as a private on November 4, 1862 into Company "K", Connecticut 20th Infantry. He was promoted to Sergeant Major on May 4, 1863, Adjutant on September 2, 1863, and captain in Company "F" on May 11, 1864. He was wounded at the Battle of Peachtree Creek on July 20, 1864, during the Atlanta Campaign.

    Condition: Flattened folds, with heavier toning and light soiling thereat. A few light stains, and a tiny tear (less than a half inch) occurring at one of the folds at left.
