One page, 7.75" x 10", June 8, 1840, New Orleans, to an unknown recipient, concerning a pay advance of "One hundred dollars New Orleans funds, advanced on my pay". Very bold writing with docketing on back. With folds; fine.

    More Information:

    Hugh McLeod (1814-1862) graduated last in his class at West Point. Shortly after receiving his commission in the U.S. Army, he resigned to join the Texas Army. He became adjutant and inspector general in 1840. One year later in June 1841, he was promoted to brigadier general and assigned to lead the military participants of the Santa Fe expedition. During the failed expedition, he was captured and imprisoned in Perote Prison until 1842.
