[Texas Republic] Charles S. Taylor Legal Document Signed "Cha S. Taylor/ Attny for petitioner". One page (written on both sides), 8" x 10", "May Term AD 1842", "County of Nacogdoches". This is a debt-related legal brief headed with "Republic of Texas/ County of Nacogdoches" and filed by Charles Taylor, a member of the Texas Revolutionary Committee of Correspondence and a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. After signing the Declaration, Taylor and family fled to Louisiana during the Runaway Scrape; he returned to Nacogdoches, Texas, after the revolution was over. Born in London, England, he had eventually settled in Nacogdoches where he began practicing law in 1839. This page has been separated from the rest of the full document, though Taylor's signature is bold and completely intact. Slight separation is beginning at the folds; chipping along the left edge. Very good.
