    [Stonewall Jackson.] Belle Boyd Autograph Inscription Signed "Belle Boyd of Va." One page, 10.25" x 6.5", No place; no date. A lengthy inscription to a Jimmy Burk of Baltimore. It reads in full, "Yours truly & sincerely sweet memories of 'Long ago' Belle Boyd of Va The Ex Rebel Spy - Capt. & A.D.C. 'Stonewall' Jackson CSA."

    One of the most famous and notorious of Confederate spies, Boyd became an espionage agent at the age of seventeen, serving the Confederate forces in the Shenandoah Valley and operating her spying operations from her father's hotel in Front Royal, Virginia. During the spring 1862 Valley Campaign, she became a courier and provided valuable information to Generals Turner Ashby and Stonewall Jackson. General Jackson made her a captain and honorary aide-de-camp on his staff. From the Bret J. Formichi American Civil War Rarities Collection.

    Condition: Toned throughout, with darker toning at the edges. Some chipping and small tears at the edges. A tear down the right side has been reinforced with tape on verso. Overall good.
