    [Slavery]. Post-War Eliza Blacken Present Letter, Looking for Her Family. One page, 9.75" x 8", New Orleans; March 8, 1869. Following the Civil War, many emancipated slaves sought to find what had become of their family members. In this letter, ex-slave Eliza writes, in part: "...you daughter is well and I want to know if you is alive or dead...send my best resept [sic] to you all and let you know that I am well and doing well at Present...William Blacken when you Bought me over Calian tell my mother happy and my family to here that sir you was a good man...I live in the state of Louisiana...I give my best resept [sic] to all the Blackens Both white and Black."

    Condition: Usual mail folds, with minor soiling at bottom margin. Overall very good.
