    Description

    [Sam Bell Maxey]. General Rice Maxey Land Deed Signed. Two pages with integral blank, 8" x 12.5", Lamar County, Texas, November 22, 1870, acknowledging the sale of "two lots of land" to Adolphus W. Lawman for "the sum of one thousand dollars lawful coin." Maxey (1800-1878), a former general in the Kentucky militia, came to Texas in 1857 and practiced law with his son, Confederate General Sam Bell Maxey. He served in the Texas Senate from 1863 until 1866. Docketed on the verso of the integral blank. Folds. Scattered spots of staining and separation of the folds at the edges. Several tears to the blank have been repaired with tape.
