[Revolutionary War]. Lachlan McIntosh Autograph Letter Signed "Lachn M.Intosh." One page, 7.5" x 8.5", Darien [Georgia], July 24, 1775, to Savannah merchant George Houstoun. McIntosh states that he wrote to Houstoun earlier "concerning my two Negro fellows Ben & Glascow who are in the Work House in Charlestown but forgot to inclose John Simpson & Co. Letter mentioned in it, which this is intended to Convey - and hope you will do all you can to Sell them to the best advantage for me. Pray try if you can Send me some Rum Soon as I am quite out." Addressed on the verso. Smoothed folds are weakened in parts with some minor loss of paper and are repaired with tape on the verso. Toned edges are also chipped in places.

With a 5.25" x 6" engraved portrait of McIntosh (1727-1806), who served as a general in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War and is best remembered for killing Declaration of Independence signer Button Gwinnett in a duel in May 1777.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
