    [Queen Anne's War]. Thomas Phipps Autograph Document Signed "Thoms. Phipps Capt." One page, 7.5" x 6.5" (height varies), Portsmouth [New Hampshire], March 2, 1709. Titled "An Account of Snowshooes & Mogaseens [moccasins] Impressd for her Majestys Servs," the sheet contains a list of twenty-six names, divided into three columns, each designating the type of footwear given: on the left, those with moccasins; center, those with snowshoes; right column, those with both. Near the bottom is written: "Above is a List of Snow Shoes and Mogasseens imprest [sic] out of the first foot Company of Militia in Portsmo. and [illegible] out in the publick service." Docketed on the verso. Minor staining of the left and right edges. Smoothed folds. Chipped edges. Ink bleed-through from the verso.

    Fought during the War of Spanish Succession, Queen Anne's War (as it was known in the British colonies of North America), was second in a series of wars between England and France for control of the North American continent between 1702 and 1713. The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Utrecht whereby France relinquished its claims to Newfoundland, Acadia, and the area around the Hudson Bay.
