    [Napoleon Bonaparte]. 11 Documents Signed by Early-19th Century Marshals of France. All are dated early nineteenth century and are in French, though translations are included with most. The distinction of Marshal of France (later Marshal of the Empire) has been historically granted to exceptional generals for centuries. These documents and letters are dated between 1799-1838 and are signed by Marshals of France who were given the distinction under the rule of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1804, 1809, or 1815. A previous owner's stamp exists on each verso. Minor soiling to some documents.

    André Masséna Document Signed (August 21, 1799) on stationery of the Army of the Danube to General Hendelet regarding the destination of General Ney. Louis Nicolas Davout Document Signed ("year 9 of the French Republic" [1802]) on stationery reading "Army in Italie" to the minister of war praising the valiance of a captain of the Colimourt Squadron of Dragoons and recommending his promotion. Edouard Mortier Document Signed on French Republic stationery from the general headquarters at Paris in the 9th year of the French Republic (1802) reporting on a member of the general staff. Bon Adrien Jeannot de Moncey Document Signed on French Republic stationery in "year 11" (1804) to Roussot, the commander of the Brigade, regarding an aide-de-camp who has too much influence over his general. Francois Christophe de Kellerman Letter Signed (August 27, 1806) to "the Prefect of the Department" regarding the arrests of thirty-six grenadiers who deserted. Joachim Murat Letter Signed (January 20, 1819) ordering the commander of the flotilla on Lake Garda to send supplies. Also includes an engraving of Murat. Jacques MacDonald Document Signed (November 24, 1824) on stationery of the Administration of the Royal Order of the Legion of Honor authorizing an unspecified soldier ("Monsieur le Comte") to wear the decoration of Knight of 3rd Class of the Order of St. Anne of Russia. Auguste Frédéric Louis Viesse de Marmont Document Signed (September 10, 1838) thanking Colonel von Wagner letters and his acquaintance. The transmittal envelope is also included. Jean-Baptiste Bessières Letter Signed (September 4 [n.y.] ordering troop movements. Michel Ney Letter Signed (n.d.) ordering Mr. Guinbeaux to offer payment to a Lt. Pruitior. Emmanuel de Grouchy, Marquis de Grouchy, Letter Signed (June 25 [n.y.]) regarding a meeting with the recipient, "Parish."
