[Mexican War]. Colonel Nicholas Mendoza Autograph Letters (2) Signed. Both are in Spanish and addressed to Captain Jesus de la Garza transmitting orders regarding Mexican troops. Moderate staining and some foxing to both letters.

The first is one and one-half pages of a bifolium, 8.25" x 10.5", San Fernando [Mexico], November 19, 1844, transmitting a copy of the order from the Supreme Government which ordered the suspension of all activities for the Texas campaign because of a lack of funds. Mendoza further ordered the troops on the frontier to remain as they were before General Mariano Arista arrived. The second letter is three pages of a bifolium, 8.25" x 10.5", Matamoros, March 4, 1846, regarding movements to cut off the Americans, who, Mendoza thought, might be in Santa Gertrudis and trying to move on Matamoros. Mendoza also comments on the American army, which he judges to be unhappy because it comprised soldiers from many different nations. He reasoned that these soldiers would be less loyal and, thus, less willing to do for their cause than Mexicans for theirs. He also judges the American cavalry as useless.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
