Taken Robert Patterson's residence during an anniversary dinner of the club, the photograph features sixteen members of the Aztec Club with four guests. Pictured members: U. S. Grant, Robert Patterson, John J. Abercrombie, Thomas L. Alexander, John G. Barnard, William F. Barry, Charles J. Biddle, George A. H. Blake, Governor Milledge L. Bonham, William H. French, Edwin L. Hardcastle, Henry Coppee, Fitz John Porter, Oliver L. Shepherd, Zealous B. Tower, and Cadmus M. Wilcox. The guests are Orville E. Babcock, John M. Cuyler, Frederick D. Grant, and Robert E. Patterson.
The Aztec Club of 1847 is a patriotic hereditary society founded by U.S. Army officers of the Mexican War. Robert Patterson, who served as a major general during the Mexican War, was president of the club from 1867 until 1881.
Condition: Excellent contrast and detail, the albumen is near fine. Mount has scattered foxing and minor soiling, with bumping occurring at lower left corner, and small surface peel along bottom; both well away from the image. Ideal for display.
