"Mad Anthony" Wayne sends for the Cavalry in Indian War! Autographed Letter Signed, as Major General and Commander-in-Chief of the Legion Army, 1 page, 8" by 10", Head Quarters, Hobson's Choice, May 14, 1793. To his second in command, Brigadier General James Wilkinson - whose secret plots to destroy him caused Wayne no end of problems in the field. Left margin of integral leaf has been strengthened, not affecting the text; else fine. Offered here is a choice example of a scarce and desirable autograph - an urgent command given in the midst of Little Turtle's War. "I wish to order Capt. Lear with all the Cavalry to this place immediately - except those attached to Col. Strong's command. The accumulation of forage at the advanced posts, added to other considerations renders a junction of the Cavalry to this place indispensably necessary." From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
