[Gettysburg] Hugh Miller Eulogy Letter. Two pages, 7.5" x 9.5", on lined paper, "Head Qrts 42nd Miss Regt. Bivouac on the Rapidan," August 15, 1863, to Mrs. Hugh R. Miller from the officers of the Forty-second Mississippi eulogizing her late husband, Colonel Hugh R. Miller. It reads in part:

"In presenting the accompanying Resolutions, it is not with the hope of mitigating the poignancy of your grief, but to testify our respect for the memory of One whom we all regarded with feelings of esteem...while attentive to his duties as commander of the Regiment, in private intercourse he was always the courteous Gentleman. Honored at home, he had but to extend the circle of his acquaintance to become so wherever known."

Colonel Miller was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg and was subsequently captured. He died from his wounds two weeks after the battle as a prisoner of war. The letter is signed by Robert Taggart, Surgeon 42nd Miss. Regiment, and countersigned by all of the officers of the regiment. Soiling along the vertical folds, else very fine.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
