    Description

    [Frank James]. John Newman Edwards Autograph Letter Signed "J. N. Edwards." Two pages, 5.5" x 11", St. Joseph [Missouri], March 27, 1884. Three weeks before his federal trial in Alabama, Edwards writes to Frank James that the "...government's charge against you will be ...'a conspiracy to rob'...a sort of drag net...which brings in every string and admits everybody to testify." He closes by saying he has received "...a long letter from poor Cole Younger...He is still brave, hopeful, and high-spirited." Cole Younger was in Stillwater Prison in Minnesota. With original transmittal envelope. Folds weakened with slight separation at the edges; uneven toning.
