    [Connecticut Currency]. John Hallam Invoices the Colony of Connecticut for Engraving the Plate Used to Print their Currency Notes. Both sides of a single sheet, 8.25" x 5". Hartford; August 5, 1775. Recto reads: "Colony of Connecticut to John Hallam. 1775 May. To Cutting 2 new Escutcheons & repair the rest of the Money Decorations... 3. 0. 0. Errors Excepted / John Hallam." Silversmith John Hallam was contracted by the Colony to engrave the plates used for their bulls of credit and currency in 1775.

    On the verso, is a directive to "pay to Mr. Hallam the sum of three pounds money in bills of this Colony" signed by Benjamin Payne and Jesse Root as Justices of the Peace. Root would later serve as a delegate to the Continental Congress from 1778 to 1782.

    Condition: Additional dockets and signatures on verso. Gently toned, Trimmed at top.
