    [Civil War-CSA]. Samuel Cooper Free Frank Signature "S. Cooper." Postal cover, 5.25" x 3", Adjutant General's Office, Washington, DC; January 16, 1858. Cover is addressed to Mr. J. N. Macomb, Geneva, New York. At the time Cooper sent this cover, he was serving as Adjutant General in the U.S. Army.

    Samuel Cooper (1798-1876) was a career U.S. Army staff officer, serving during the Second Seminole War and the Mexican-American War. When the Civil War broke out, Cooper joined the Confederate States Army, and served as the highest-ranking Confederate general.

    Condition: Cover has slight wrinkles, and residue of red paper on back where it was once attached by glue; otherwise good.
