    Description

[Adrian Woll] Manuscript Copy of an Address to the Troops of the 1st Brigade of the North. Two and half pages, folio (8.75" x 12.75"), Sabinas, Headquarters of the 1st Brigade of the North, November 13, 1844; an impassioned call to arms. Using inspirational language, Woll refers to his troops as "keepers of security on the frontier" and describes his efforts to financially support them. He refers to Mariano Arista, Chief of Expeditionary Forces, who froze $38,000 in funds and redirected them to the their detriment, calling Arista's actions "incomprehensible, as it also ruined our credit". He expresses his appreciation for their "suffering, fatigue, faithfulness and distinguished service" and that he has conveyed these same thoughts to the President. He concludes: "Soldiers, the love I have for you is limitless, as I have witnessed your valor in the fields of Texas when you fought under my orders against the enemy, who wants to usurp part of the territory of Mexico... Long live Gen. Santa Anna! Long live Gen. Canalizo!" Near fine condition, with a few instances of minor shipping and dampstaining. This copy was executed at San Fernando on November 24, 1844. From the Taking of Texas Collection.
