    [Abraham Lincoln]. United States Volunteer Honorable Service Certificate. One page, 16" x 13.25", Washington; December 15, 1864. No. 28799. Awarded to Private William Ruggles of the 138th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry. This certificate was presented as thanks for 100 days of honorable service. Private Ruggles of Huntington County was mustered out of service on September 30, 1864, having joined up on May 27, 1864. The printed signatures of President Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton, appear in the lower margin. The certificate is decorated with a patriotic vignette.

    Condition: 1.5" closed tear to crease at center left edge. Lightly rubbed and toned especially along edges. Some soiling along right edge and center of document.
