[Abraham Lincoln]. Receipt for the 1860 Presidential Campaign. Four integral pages, 7.75" x 9.75", June 6, 1860. In mid-May of 1860, the Republican National Convention met in Chicago to nominate their candidate for president in the upcoming election. Lincoln-Hamlin were chosen over William H. Seward, Salmon P. Chase, Simon Cameron, and Edward Bates, all of whom became members of Lincoln's cabinet following his election as president. It was decided by Lincoln's followers that a 100 gun salute should be fired in honor of his nomination.

On the first two pages is found a list of twenty-seven names in which the "...subscribers agree to pay the same sums affixed to their names for the purpose of firing a ratification salute for the nomination of Lincoln & Hamlin." The amount collected totaled $100 which was then given to a Col. Humphries who was in command of an artillery battery. A receipt acknowledging the exchange of money from "...Albert L. Calder Esq One Hundred Dollars, in full, for fireing [sic] a salute of 100 guns, on 22 May, in honor of the Chicago nominations..." is found on page three and signed by Humphries. Usual folds with some ink bleed through. Lightly toned along interior folds.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
