[Abraham Lincoln]: Documents and Autographs of "Long Nine" Members. The "Long Nine" were colleagues of Lincoln who served with him in the Illinois legislature at the state capital at Vandalia from 1836 to 1837, representing Sangamon County. Each was 6 foot tall or taller. Dan Stone and Robert Wilson are the more difficult examples to source. The group includes: 1) an 1834 legal document completed and signed by D. STONE, as attorney for the defense, 2) an 1830 promissory note written by William Herndon on behalf of A. G. ARCHER (though not signed by Archer), 3) an 1833 marriage license signed by C. R. Matheny on one side and JOHN DAWSON on the other, 4) an 1858 receipt for witness-related expenses signed by JOB FLETCHER, 5) an 1843 promissory note endorsed by N. W. EDWARDS, 6) an 1854 marriage certificate signed by WM. F. ELKINS, 7) an 1833 legal document signed ANDREW McCORMACK, 8) an 1856 legal document on blue lined paper docketed by R. L. WILSON. We add a bonus item: 9) an 1861 church pew receipt for Ozias M. Hatch (Illinois Secretary of State and personal friend of Lincoln) signed by S. H. Melvin, the Springfield druggist who bought most of Lincoln's furniture in 1861, prior to Lincoln's departure for Washington. The receipt is from the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield. Mary Todd Lincoln joined this church and both she and her husband attended Sunday services there.
