    Other topics covered include Lincoln's cabinet, the Republican Party, "Black Republicans", Copperheads, presidential appointments, Mary Lincoln's close relatives serving as Union officers, the 1864 election, Grant's early encounters with Lee, and the "wishes of the late President Lincoln" on reconstruction. The archive includes letters to Lincoln's Secretary of Treasury William P. Fessenden and one to the previous secretary of treasury, Salmon P. Chase. This archive is worthy of further research.
