    Lajos Markos Reproduction Oil Portrait of Sam Houston. 19.5" x 15.75" (sight), oil on canvas, framed to an overall size of 23" x 26.75". The work is a frontal half-length portrait of Sam Houston in old age wearing a black bow tie and jacket. Reproduction signature, "L. Markos", in orange in bottom right corner. Otherwise, no marks or damage to the canvas. Frame has small hole drilled through the bottom center.

    More Information: The artist, Lajos Markos (1917-1993), emigrated to the United States in 1952 from Hungary. He lived first in New York and then moved to Houston in 1971. In Texas, Markos produced many western works related to both cowboy culture and famous Texans. One of his most well-known works, "Siege of the Alamo," is displayed in the State Capital building in Austin. The artist also made paintings of Robert E. Lee, General George Patton and Sam Houston, which are currently in private collections. The work offered here is a reproduction of the original Sam Houston portrait. Markos created over 2000 portraits, some of which hang in prestigious institutions like the Vatican Museum.
